hints & tips
For the seller
- Ensure that the description of the item you are selling is clear and not misleading in any way.
- If you have access to a digital camera, include a picture of the item you want to sell. Please make sure that there are no children visible in the picture you upload as we cannot use it.
- Make your advert stand out by placing a border on it, see construct your ad.
- After designing your advert you will have a chance to preview it. Ensure any changes are made at this stage as once you submit the advert you will not be able to do this.
- Guard your personal details carefully. If the buyer would like to view the item advertised before agreeing to purchase it, then ask them for their details e.g. phone number, address etc, before giving out your home address etc.
- Be cautions before allowing anyone into your home to view items advertised, only do so if you are comfortable with the purchaser.
- If the buyer wants you to post the item to them then you need to be as accurate as possible on the postage costs and agree with the buyer who will pay for the postage.
- When posting an item, ensure that it is wrapped correctly so that it arrives at the buyer in good order.
- It is advisable to receive cleared payment from the buyer before parting with the item advertised.
For the buyer
- If you are interested in purchasing an item but would like more information on it then contact the seller and request any other information or arrange to view the item at a time convenient to both of you.
- Ask if there are any instruction manuals for the item being purchased.
- Be sure to have some form of proof of payment for the item (cheque, receipt, telegraphic transfer, etc. avoid cash unless you are in immediate receipt of the item). Note that we do not get involved in the transaction between buyer & seller, so cannot assist if payment has been made and an item not delivered. Be alert.
